Distance Problem Poem

Bob and Jan made a plan to take a little trip.

They couldn’t agree on what to see so they had to make a shift.

Bob went east, Jan went west, they left at the same time.

He said he’d phone 2 hours from home, dialing her car phone line.

If Bob drove twice as fast as Jan,

And together the total distance spanned

Was two hundred forty miles,

Please find their rates (or speeds, you know),

Who went fast and who went slow?

And make your teacher smile!
